program description

Albany College of Pharmacy and 健康科学 and the Albany Medical Center Division of Community Endocrinology have enjoyed a collaborative relationship since 1997 and have offered a PGY2 endocrinology residency since 1999.

The endocrinology resident functions as a key member of the health care team and is accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes for their patients through work in the following areas:

The resident will work with patients, 内分泌学家, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinicians on a daily basis and gain extensive training in ambulatory care adult medicine, endocrinology pharmacotherapy, and direct pharmaceutical care to patients.

Professional Development

The resident will be involved in activities that advance pharmacy practice in the region, including professional organizations and health care coalitions.

教学

The resident will participate in didactic teaching, in large and small classroom settings, as well as experiential teaching by precepting Pharm.D. students on rotations. The resident will also complete the 教学 and Learning Program developed by ACPHS specifically for residents and fellows.

Practice-Based 研究

Completion and publication of a research project is expected, as is involvement with other scholarly projects throughout the year. This will include data analysis, poster and manuscript preparation, and presentation of results at a national pharmacy/medicine meeting.

The Albany Medical Center (AMC) Division of Community Endocrinology consists of 10 内分泌学家, 一名外科医生, 足病医生, and seven physician assistants and nurse practitioners. There are approximately 1,200 patients seen each week at the site. Three of the board-certified 内分泌学家 at the site work with the resident on a daily basis and serve as co-preceptors.


APPLICATION PROCESS

Before applying for the Residency Program, applicants must be:

  • A graduate of an accredited school or college of pharmacy
  • Eligible for New York State licensure
  • A U.S. citizen or carry a permanent resident visa

The applicant should be self-directed, 动机, and display a commitment to professional involvement. Strong emphasis is placed on interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to provide patient-centered care in an ambulatory pharmacy setting.

The resident must also complete licensure within two months of beginning the residency.
